Susannah Hardwick is a multifaceted British soprano currently based in New York City.  Born and raised in London, she came to the United States in 2021 to pursue a Master of Music degree in Opera Performance at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, graduating in 2023. Previously she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice from the Royal College of Music in London.  

Last summer, Susannah held a vocal fellowship and chorus artist position with the  Spoleto Festival USA, where she was a featured soloist in the Festival’s Chorus and  Orchestra performance of Handel’s Dixit Dominus. She also performed in the chorus for the Festival’s mainstage operatic production of Vanessa.  

Susannah is quickly developing her operatic repertoire as a lyric soprano. Roles she has performed include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (Opera Aeterna), Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro (Boston Conservatory  Opera), Susannah (cover) in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah (Boston Conservatory Opera),  Eurydice in Orpheus in the Underworld (Hawaii Performing Arts Festival), Euridice in  L’Orfeo (Royal College of Music), Clorinda (cover) in La Cenerentola (British Youth  Opera), Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica (Opera Lucca), Ottavia in L’incoronazione di  Poppea (Ensemble Orquesta) and Johanna in Sweeney Todd (RicNic Oxford). This summer Susannah joined the vocal company at College Light Opera, America’s premiere training ground for young artists in the light opera genre, where her roles included Patience in Patience and Celia in Iolanthe.

Susannah also has considerable experience in concert and oratorio repertoire. She has performed as a featured soloist in a number of choral and orchestral works which include Handel Dixit Dominus (Spoleto Festival USA), Mozart Requiem and Handel  Messiah (King’s Choral Society), John Adams Grand Pianola Music and Bach Cantatas  43 and 214 (Royal College of Music), Couperin Trois Leçons de Ténèbres (Handel &  Hendrix London), and Mozart Coronation Mass (Lewisham Choral Society).

Susannah has enjoyed success in competitions in both the UK and the USA. She was recently named the winner of the Copland Award in last year’s final of the Orpheus  Vocal Competition, and was a semifinalist in both the Opera Mississippi John Alexander National Vocal Competition (2023) and the Pasadena Vocal Competition (2022). She was also the winner of a Collingwood Finalist’s Prize in the Kathleen Ferrier  Bursary for Young Singers in 2018.  

Susannah is also an experienced choral singer and currently holds a soprano staff position in the professional choir at Marble Collegiate Church. She is a fluent sight singer and also has perfect pitch. These skills have equipped her ideally for the demands of the choral world. She first gained experience in choral singing as a member of the Rodolfus Choir. In the 2016/2017  academic year she studied at Oxford University and during this time was a choral scholar at Merton College. She was featured as a soloist on two of the choir’s BBC  Radio 3 broadcasts, including the premier broadcast of Robin Holloway’s Christmas  Sequence.

Susannah plans to continue building her operatic and musical career from her home base of New York City. This Spring she launched her very own pop-up song concert series, A Night in Paris, in which she presents French song in a cabaret style setting in different immersive venues across NYC, which had its debut performance at NYC’s famed Rockwood Music Hall.
